jQuery DataTables - I cannot get the desired effect I want

I hope this isn't considered inappropriate, but I just posted a question on Stack Overflow on the issue I am having. Essentially, i've tried everything I can to achieve the desired effect of the demo on the DataTables site, and I just cannot quite get there.

Please link to a test case. Your HTML looks okay, so we'd need a test case to actually be able to offer any help.
