Can I add a button to the right of the default 'Search' box?

I would like to add a button (actually two) to the right of the datatables Search box. One button would be to 'clear' the search filter, the other is specific to my application (to toggle some rows to display/not display).
Is there an easy way to do this?
Or, should I just create an external search box, and the buttons, as shown in this post:

Are you using Firefox as your browser?

There is an X that shows up inside the search box on the right-hand side.

The X shows up in Chrome, but not Firefox. Not that that helps, but the X is there.

As for the row toggle, is this for filtering data?

    I am using Firefox.

My intent is to add a 'Clear' filter button, and the other button I want is to change how Date/time fields are displayed. This is a customer request - they want European format and American format. Given the layout, it makes sense to me to add these buttons to the right of the Filter field. I don't HAVE too.... but it would make the layout a bit neater and remove some negative space.
