tableTools: How to maintain multiple selection after clearing the Search field?

I'd like users to be able to use the Search field to filter rows, click "Select All" to select the filtered rows, then clear the Search field and have the selection list maintained, leaving the filtered-but-now-showing rows unselected but selectable by click. The multi-select example doesn't seem to work this way. How do I achieve this?
