Datatables Responsive breaks on non-Chrome browsers when web components used

I have been pulling my hair out trying to debug this. Here is a codepen showing my issue:

I have found that if webcomponents.js is included, Datatables Responsive no longer works. I have confirmed this in IE11, Firefox 38, mobile Safari. Works on desktop and mobile Chrome.

Can anyone see a way to fix this?
