Responsive toggle hidden when first column is hidden (low priority)

I've tried using both columnPriority and Class Control to hide the first column of my dataTables on mobile devices. However, since the first column is hidden, there's no way to toggle the details because the toggle is inside the first (hidden) column.
Am I missing something that lets me toggle the details if the first column is hidden responsively?
I'm also using Datatables Bootstrap if it affects things.
