How to use state.clear?

I don't know how to implement state.clear() only when user logout.Please suggest code for the same.
Issue:I am using sessionStorage ,but the implementation of session storage is such that new session is created only when user login in another tab or another window ,I want new session to be created in same tab when user logs in again in same tab.
