do datatables support rowspan/colspan in table body

I've learnt somewhere that datatables doesn't support rowspan/colspan in table body.
does that valid for current version ??

is there any workaround if that isn't possible.

That is correct and still applies to the current version. The reason for this is that rows and columns are effectively inpedentent from one another - for example if you have a colspan and try to sort on a column with the colspan, what data is used? How about if you have a rowspan split over two or more pages. There are a number of interaction challenges that I haven't resolved yet before I attempt to implement solutions. All discussion and ideas on this are very welcome!
