I found this example helpful and I tried it with an integer **value, but when I tried to replace the existing content of a cell with a **string; it doesn't work.
I wonder if I am missing any setting that needs to be taken care of

It should be the same, see similar example here: http://live.datatables.net/qadafite/2/edit .
Could you look at that, please, and see if it helps. If it's still not working for you, please can you update my example, or link to your page, so that we can see the problem.
