How to deal with ajax(success) function?

Hello,when edit data,server returns false. Then in my ajax.success function,besides write("alert(server error)"), is there other javascript should be written? What I meet is that modal window does not close and the selected row does not update,as well as the editor button invalid.Besides,there is on data formate error in my server result.
Any help will be appreciated,thanks.

I am sorry,I have resolved the question by searching other questions and read answers ,just add "success(json)", this is the function in plug itself. Anyway, the plug helps me a lot to develop the service manage plat.
